Term Definition
Business process A set of related activities or tasks performed together to achieve the objectives of the health programme area, such as registration, counselling and referrals.
Data dictionary A centralized repository of information about the data elements that contains their definition, relationships, origin, use and type of data. For this DAK, the data dictionary is provided as a spreadsheet.
Data element A unit of data that has specific and precise meaning.
Decision-support logic A set of decision rules for standard and exceptional cases that is separate from the business process.
Decision-support (for health workers) Digitized job aids that combine an individual’s health information with the health worker’s knowledge and clinical protocols to assist in diagnosis and treatment decisions.
Decision-support table Semi-structured way to depict each discrete decision to be embedded in the system.
Digital health The systematic application of ICT, computer science, and data to support informed decision-making and improve health and wellness.
Digital tracking Use of a digitized record to capture and store clients’ health information for follow-up and service tracking.
Functional requirement Capabilities the system must have to meet user needs and achieve tasks in the business process.
Health information system A system for collecting, processing, reporting, and using health information to improve service effectiveness and efficiency.
Health management information system (HMIS) An information system designed to assist in the management and planning of health programmes.
Interoperability The ability of different applications to access, exchange, and use data in a coordinated and timely way across boundaries.
Non-functional requirement General attributes and features ensuring usability and addressing technical constraints, e.g., offline support or password protection.
Persona A generic description of a person involved in or benefitting from a health programme.
Person-centred point of service system (PCPOSS) Digital systems that support health service delivery at the point of care, including features like EMRs and decision-support tools.
Standard A published specification used to ensure consistent, uniform information sharing in digital applications.
Task A specific action in a business process.
Terminologies Structured vocabularies used in clinical care to consistently represent health-related concepts.
Workflow A visual representation of the logical flow of tasks, events, and decision points in a business process.
